Code of Ethics

The following Code of Ethics applies to all board members, employees, volunteers, and representatives of Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention (AASP THEY MATTER). By signing this document, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by the standards and expectations set forth by the organization.

Honesty

I promise to be honest, truthful, and trustworthy in my interactions within the organization and with the public.

 

Integrity

I promise to conduct myself with integrity and uphold the values and mission of Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention at all times.

 

Transparency

I promise to be transparent regarding the organization's mission, programs, goals, and activities while representing Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention.

Confidentiality

I promise to maintain the confidentiality of organizational records, member information, volunteer information, and sensitive communications. Confidential information shall only be shared with authorized individuals within the organization when necessary.

Non-Discrimination

I promise to treat all individuals with dignity, compassion, fairness, and respect. I will not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, or any other protected characteristic.

Scope of Service

I understand that Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention is not a medical, legal, or mental health treatment provider. I promise not to provide medical advice, diagnoses, treatment recommendations, or professional services beyond my qualifications. Our role is to provide hope, support, education, awareness, encouragement, and resources.

Professional Conduct

I promise to conduct myself in a professional, respectful, and ethical manner that reflects positively upon Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention and the communities we serve.

Respect for Personal Beliefs

I promise to respect the beliefs, backgrounds, values, and life experiences of all individuals. I understand that my role is to offer hope, support, encouragement, and resources—not judgment. I will not shame, condemn, harass, or impose my personal religious, political, or ideological beliefs upon other members, volunteers, or the public.

Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention welcomes individuals from all walks of life. Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Personal beliefs may inspire our service to others, but they should never be used to criticize, condemn, or alienate those we seek to help.

Chain of Command

I promise to follow the organization's chain of command. If I experience concerns, conflicts, or issues involving another member, volunteer, employee, or board member, I will address those concerns through the appropriate leadership channels rather than discussing them publicly or with unrelated individuals.

​

Positive Organizational Environment

I promise to contribute to a positive, respectful, and non-hostile environment. Gossip, bullying, harassment, intimidation, retaliation, and behavior that creates unnecessary division or conflict will not be tolerated. Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention reserves the right to remove any individual whose conduct undermines the mission, values, or well-being of the organization.

 

Communication Privacy

I promise not to share, distribute, publish, or disclose private communications, screenshots, internal discussions, emails, messages, documents, or organizational information outside of Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention without authorization from leadership, except where disclosure is required by law.

 

Responsibility and Accountability​

I promise to notify organizational leadership as soon as reasonably possible if I am unable to fulfill a volunteer assignment, responsibility, event commitment, or work obligation. Timely communication allows the organization to continue serving the public effectively and honor commitments made to the communities we serve.

Commitment to the Mission

I promise to do my best to support the mission of Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention. I will contribute my skills, talents, knowledge, and abilities to help promote hope, awareness, connection, and suicide prevention while reminding others that they matter.
