The Hope Bear Project for Suicide Prevention Month 2026 Recap

During Suicide Prevention Month 2026, Action & Awareness for Suicide Prevention (AASP THEY MATTER) launched The Hope Bear Project, sending 34 U MATTER BUDDY™ Hope Bears and Buddy Bandits into the world with one life-affirming mission: to remind people that they matter. Across four batches, each little traveler was lovingly prepared with a Hope Package, Buddy Passport, private QR-code access, and meaningful items designed to offer comfort, connection, and encouragement. What began with six special travelers on September 1 grew through the generosity of compassionate donors and the overwhelming support of our community. Although the mailing portion of the project has officially closed, its mission is far from over. Each recipient is encouraged, when ready, to pass their buddy and passport to someone else who needs hope, allowing the message to continue traveling from person to person: Don’t let the chain of hope end with you...pass it on. Because #THEYMATTER.

On September 1st, 2026, we began this project with 6 Hope Bears, and since then, we have expanded far beyond those six to a total of 34 from the U MATTER BUDDY FAMILY!

Although the submission form has officially closed...this mission has not.

34 Individuals are now our hands and feet to continue this mission...which is to not let the chain of hope end with you...pass it on. That is the heart of this project and mission...remind as many people as possible that they matter.
Because they truly do.
